Since opening in 1982 and even after closing in 1997, the Hacienda continues to be the center of the UK dance scene. To celebrate its 25th anniversary, The Hacienda Classics vol. 1 was born. This CD was compiled by the legendary Peter Hook who elevated the Hacienda to its mythic status and continues to DJ around the world. The featured tracks capture the energy that inspired so many and pays tribute to the place that started the 2nd summer of love, the rave scene in the UK and countless artists, DJ’s and producers.

What the Hacienda means to me.................. This has changed a lot through the years. When it opened in 1982, it was a bit of a mystery to me. I didn't understand it! Also I played down my role in it. As the years went on and I became aware of my role in it, as in founding it, funding it, fighting for it, etc, etc...

I became aware of how important it was in many people's lives. A lot of our fans' formative years were spent there enjoying themselves...... I had a different role; the Hacienda over the years has been a love-hate relationship for me.

At the moment I love it, ten years ago I hated it! I'm grateful to DefSTAR RECORDS for this opportunity to relive the great times, the best times through the MUSIC.

This compilation is our little bit of Manchester sent to you with love...enjoy!
